A Message from the Chairman, David
Barnaby
I am pleased to welcome you to the website of the
Circus Zoological Society, founded in 2003 by my friend, the
distinguished zoologist Clinton Keeling, who sadly died in 2007. The
Society comprises a group of people who enjoy the circus and are
interested in aspects of its history and culture. |
 |
|
It supports those circuses who
uphold the long tradition of featuring animals, both domestic and
exotic, in their shows and strives to disseminate verifiable and
factual information about the health and occupation of the animals
in those circuses which show a caring attitude. The Society supports
and endorses genuinely objective inspections by veterinary surgeons
and others qualified to judge.
An important aspect of
membership is the newsletter 'Panthera'. Here you can read a few of
the items that have appeared in past issues. If you would like to
join the Society you can download a membership form
here. I hope you will come back and
visit the website regularly. |

A spokesman for the Circus
Zoological Society claims
the RSPCA, Animal Defenders and Born Free are behaving like bad losers. All
three organisations were highly critical of the report and in particular
complained that the remit of the working group was too narrow. "If you play a
game and lose you shouldn't complain that the rules are unfair," he said,
pointing out that the members of the academic panel were all highly qualified
zoologists or veterinary scientists. Read the full press release
