Dear Great British Circus - I just
wanted to drop a note about the excellent show I attended last night. I
always visit when you come to Newark. It was thoroughly enjoyed by my
niece (3) and nephew (8) and from what I can see all other adults and
children attending. All your animals are beautiful and I have no problems
with a circus containing animals as you can clearly see they are looked
after and loved by all members of the group. It’s a delight to see the
relationship, rapport and trust the animals have in their carers and vice
versa! Long live the GBC - where else can children view an array of
animals obviously enjoying what they do (rather than being caged up in
zoos) Keep up the good work and hope to see you next year! Amy (Newark)

Dear Mr Lacey,
Just a quick message of sincere thanks to you and your company for
bringing elephants back to the circus in this country. Having read
the Defra report and many other published articles regarding the
welfare of large captive animals, I fully agree that making these
magnificent animals accessible to a wider audience will promote
greater interest in their preservation and welfare, and I disagree
with all those who will undoubtedly be sending you opinions to the
contrary on a largely uninformed or mistaken basis. Historically,
circus elephant welfare has been of a variable standard, but it's
clear to me that your company has carefully considered all the
issues concerned and will give these elephants the best possible
physical and mental care. Just because their lives will be greatly
different to wild animals does not make the quality of life of your
elephants inferior. I'd argue that their lives may be less stressful
than their wild cousins, and certainly better than those of many zoo

"We came to see your show in Clacton
for the second year running and thought it was brilliant. All the
animals looked in top condition and being able to view there living quarters
was good. All the stalls and stables were very clean and getting so
close to the animals was excellent. Good luck with the rest of your
season and we recommend anyone to visit The Great British
